Autobiography of an Ex-coloured man

Autobiography of an Ex-Coloured Man This novel is one of the best I have read yet, during the length of the book we see the character suddenly discover his roots and how this event changed his life in many more ways that someone who has not read the book would be able to understand. Many discussions about the "Negro Question" are seen throughout the book and except for one of them -probably one of the most importants- the narrator participated in most of them which showed that he was unsure about his own ideas about his race. At the end we finish with the narrator finally negating his background and declaring himself a white man. One of the things that impressed me greatly about the novel is that the author describes his observations with very little use of symbolism and personification, instead he sets the mood and the background by giving a base at the beggining of each chapter and keeps working on a more detailed description as he narrates the story, this specially applies to the mood more than the background and scenery since he uses music as a constant way to set the mood.
