Intro: A Bridge to Wiseman’s Cove by James Moleney is a book reflecting the theme of family life. Within the book there are points on how one particular individual copes with life and how it comes at him, and differences it has, trying to look after someone at the same time. The essay will discuss how Carl (the main character) either reflects (like real life) or challenges the beliefs of society in which we live. Para 1 There are many things which happened in Carl’s life to make him feel strongly about the word family. Family is a group of people living together, normally consists of a Mum and Dad and maybe a few children. This is not evidence within the novel. It shows that by Carl’s Mum and Sister both abandoning him, that there was not a strong relationship on (page 5) Sarah Carl’s big Sister says “She’s worked out we didn’t need her, the bitch, she’s taken off for good,” Not every family has a mum and dad together like Carl’s (page 3) “Carl’s father had a face, at least” None of the kids knew there fathers, maybe that’s why he is so self cautious because he didn’t have a father figure to look up to.
