Antigones Pride
As John Ruskin once said, “Pride is at the bottom of all great mistakes.” Both Antigone, sister of two fallen brothers, and Creon, an over prideful ruler, both take their pride to far and in the end everyone they ever cared for was dead. Sophocles combines both language and plot events to show the theme that excessive pride can destroy a person. ... ) In this passage it shows Antigone’s love and pride for her brother, she says that no matter what Creon will do to her she will not be a coward and leave her brother unburied. ... Antigone tells Creon that she has more pride in serving her family then in him and the land that he rules. By far the best example of excessive pride is where Antigone is talking to Ismene after Creon finds out about the burial. ... ) In this passage she even puts pride above her own sister.
