Immortality in the case of women is particularly important in Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula as women’s sexuality and loss of maternal instincts comes forth to the extent that would be impossible for a mortal woman to release in Victorian London. ... Dracula challenges this mortal state by creating a seductive immortal woman, not only unable to have children but capable of preying on them. The women’s tendencies go from one extreme to the other as they challenge the dominant male species, this unusual behaviour for women arises a shocking sensation in the men enabling the immortal women to hypnotize the men thus making them easier to prey on. Stoker presents the readers with two extremes characterized by mortal women and immortal women; the immortal women are used metaphorically to express female independence and sexuality. These immortal women not only upset the men but defy Christian morals. The story thoroughly displays a good versus evil theme expressed effectively through mortality versus immortality. ... A mortal woman’s loyalty in Victorian London consists of caring for and feeding a child; immortal women, on the other hand, lure children into danger and feed on them. ... ” The blood represents evil or corruption which has “stained” Lucy’s previously pure soul. Near the end of the book Stoker depicts a particularly disturbing scene involving Mina and Dracula. Mina is found feeding on Dracula’s breast when the three men break down the door to save her.
