Devon, a private boys school in A Separate Peace by John Knowles, is different and similar to Sentinel, a public co-Educational school, in many ways. For example, when Gene walks along Gilman Street, he describes the luxurious and expensive houses around Devon. Both schools are located in nice neighborhoods. The kids who go to these schools are upper-middle class and come from good families. Moreover, when Gene gets to Devon, he says, ¡°There were a couple of places that I wanted to see (p2).¡± He wants to see the stairs and the trees.
