Analysis of A Raisin in the Sun

This past week we have been reading “A Raisin in the Sun”, which was written by Lorraine Hansberry in 1959. The play is about a family of African Americans living in Chicago in the 1950’s. The family has come into some money and struggling with many different ways that the money can be spent. Racial equality was a huge issue of this time because most of the city was segregated into black and white sections. The blacks were oppressed and not given ample opportunity to improve their lifestyle and move out of the ghettos. Women of this time were also not given the same clout as men were. Women were typically housewives, and the man would provide for the family. There are a number of interesting in this play. In my opinion there are three main characters. They are Mama, Beneatha, and Walter.
