Traumatic events often affect a person in many different ways. In Ernest Hemingway’s short story, “The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber,” the protagonist of the story, Francis Macomber, underwent such an event. The story focuses on Macomber and his wife’s adventures while on safari. During the safari, Macomber has an embarrassing experience that was witnessed by both his wife and their guide. This embarrassed Macomber enough that it affected his psyche. Macomber’s personality, attitude, and feelings about his wife were all altered.
