Reason Rectitude and Justice help her along the way giving her ample strong citizens to populate her city of women. ... She is not literally building a city with real walls; she is building a foundation and a strong hold that could be used as a refuge for women when they feel as if they are being persecuted. In her city she is transforming old ideas of what women are and replacing them with what she knows women are. ... The causes which have moved and which still move men to attack women, even those authors in those books, are diverse and varied just as you have discovered. ... There Adam slept, and God formed the body of woman from one of his ribs, signifying that she should stand at his side as a companion and never lie at his feet like a slave, and also that he should love her as his own flesh. ...
Overall, in t The Book of The City Of Ladies, the aspect that women are weaker and not as intelligent as men are is consistently argued. The perception of women as cowards that cry at every occasion is explained in this passage,
And in answer to those who attack women for their habit of weeping, I tell you that if our Lord Jesus Christ-from whom no thought is hidden and who sees and knows every heart-had believed that women’s tears come only from weakness and simplemindedness, the dignity of His most great Highness would never have been so inclined through compassion to shed tears Himself from the eyes of His worthy and glorious body when He saw Mary Magdalene and her sister Martha weep for their dead brother Lazarus the leper and then to resurrect him.
