In the book Crime and Punishment Dostoevsky has personality traits that he admires and abhors. In his writing he shows that people can be good and the most heinous human alive. He can also show that people can have both sides, good and evil. Some characters in this story and some he hates with a passion. With Raskolnikov (Ras), Dostoevsky plays with a split personality trait. This aspect portrays an evil as well as a good. Ras’s most fundamental characteristic is that he’s and outsider, an alien to society if you will. His pride and intellectualism is a curse because it leads to believe in the philosophy of the superman theory. This theory consists of people believing that they are above the law, that they are better than everybody else, that they are the elite of society. This crusade of self pride leads to a murderous path. He kills a mean pawnbroker and her sister. Although this nobody misses this pawnbroker it is still a crime.
