Essay 1 Othello

Essay #1 – “Othello”

After reading the play “Othello” written by Shakespeare, I observed some scenes where Desdemona and Othello were having some issues with each other. Other characters such as Iago and Emilia were also involved, but Desdemona was the character who was accused of cheating on Othello; she was the main cause of the conflict in my eyes. In Act III, Desdemona tells Othello that she wanted a have a talk with Cassio in regards to his problem, when Othello tells her no, and that another time would be more sufficient. ... She says that Cassio came to him when Othello was trying to win her love. Desdemona makes a big fuss over trying to get Cassio back, and Othello finally gives in and says that Cassio can come whenever he wants and that he will not refuse anything.
Iago comes into the scene and is asking Othello if he knew about Cassio and the wooing with Desdemona. Othello asks Iago if Cassio is an honest man and if he thinks there is something wrong with Desdemona spending time with Cassio. As Act III, scenes three continues, Othello speaks out, “Think my Lord? ... ” In this passage, Othello is worried that his wife, Desdemona is actually cheating on him, and he is asking Iago is this information is accurate. Iago states that he is Othello’s friend, and can be trusted in circumstances like these. Iago swears to Othello that Cassio is honest, and is not a cheater.
Iago and Othello continue to talk about Desdemona cheating, and Iago is hesitating to tell Othello his true feelings on the situation because he is concerned that Othello will be unhappy.
