Ecclesiastical Corruption-The Pardoner

Geoffrey Chaucer, the father of English Literature, manifested life in the medieval period. Some of his examples were ideal or real. In some cases he found much evil present in the lives of many members of the clergy. In order for him to complete this task he used a realistic viewpoint. “This pardoner had hair yellow as wax.” Or some would say the color of gold. “As small as any goat’s his voice would come, yet no bear had he nor would ever have, but all his face shone smooth as from a shave; I think he was a gelding or a mare.” Money was all he wanted. He even used pseudo items to acquire more money.
