This first chapter tells that this book is taken from the manuscripts of Ahmad ibn-Fadlan, ibn-al-Abbas, ibn-Rasid, ibn-Hammad, a client of Muhammad ibn-Sulayman, the ambassador from al-Muqtadir to the King of the Saqaliba, the Hazars, the Saqaliba, the Baskirs, the Rus, and the Northmen, and of the history of the Northmen kings, and how they acted in the ways of their every day life.
