Next, we see Shellys emphasis on beauty when Caroline decides to adopt a little girl that lives in a poverty village. Now, lets take a look at societys reaction towards the ugly and hideous, and the consequences of their treatment. ... He abandons the creature the moment it comes to life, and when he does this, it is simply out of disgust for his physical repulsiveness. He only sees the creatures appearance and takes no time to attempt to acknowledge its mental nature. ... He finds out that he is rejected because of his hideous appearance, becoming the symbol of outsider, rejected by society because of his "difference". ... I did not entirely know the fatal effects of this miserable deformity."
The creature being rejected of being accepted into the De Lacey family is another significant example of how society always summarizes a persons characteristics by his or her physical appearance.
