Kate Chopin's The Awakening

|
The Awakening, by Kate Chopin. The Awakening is a vision of woman’s emancipation that takes place in the late 1800s. This book is a portrait of a twenty-eight-year-old woman who goes through a series of events and experiences that significantly alters her life. During a time of women’s oppression, Chopin expressed her thoughts through Edna Pontellier, who was a woman who dared to have her own feelings and to break the social norms. Throughout the story, Edna increasingly became aware of her confining role in society and her desire to free herself of that role. That was of course the traditional duties as a wife and a mother. However, her newfound individualism eventually led increased solitude.
