Although all the animals in Animal Farm behaved similarly to humans it was the pigs, in particular, which most pointedly mimicked human actions. The pigs emerged as the leaders of the community and slowly began to take on more and more human characteristics. ... For instance, the pigs began to sleep in human beds, drink alcohol, wear clothes and even walk on two feet, all of which were against the rules of society. As the rules were broken the pigs changed the commandments to suit them. ... The hierarchy became more distinct as the dogs and pigs elected themselves as the superiors and therefore became more privileged than the other animals. The rest of the animals received less food than the pigs yet; they seemed to do more work. Basically the pigs exploited all the animals on the farm by saying that they couldn’t do any physical work because they were working hard planning and managing the farm. The pigs seemed to represent greed and were never satisfied. ... The pigs seemed to become humans and it was the pigs more than any other animal that took on and represented humans and their characteristics.
