In “The Pearl”, the Author John Steinbeck tells about a fisherman named Kino, who finds the “greatest Pearl in the world” (19). Steinbeck related that Kino thinks, after he found the Pearl, he will be happy and prosperous, but instead he becomes ambitious, afraid and violent. For Kino, finding the Pearl is like winning the lottery, and soon he found that, his dreams started to come true when he looks at The Pearl. Steinbeck shows us the two sides of The Pearl, prosperity, and happiness for Kino and his family, but also hopelessness. ...
At first, the Pearl represents hope, because Kino compares it to the perfection of the moon. He sees in the Pearl, his family with new clothes. ...
When everyone knows that Kino has found a Pearl, some act like they are Kino’s friends, and then bad things begin.
