PAQUITO A. PALAY Psych 124 Perils of Obedience By: Stanley Milgram In Stanley Milgram’s article, “The Perils of Disobedience,” he stated that authority and disobedience are fundamental in the structure of social life. Some argue that disobedience to authority can create social disorder while some contended the importance of having a conscience. Submission to an authority becomes a problem when orders are in conflict with one’s conscience. The problem is between the desire to follow a superior and the guilt in causing pain to an individual as a result. Milgram conducted an experiment to see how much pain an ordinary person can inflict another individual while getting orders from an experimental psychologist.
