Raising an Abnorm Child The Fifth Child

No family can be prepared for the awesome responsibility necessary to take care of a child with obvious major social and mental problems. It requires a large amount of mental and physical surplus to make sure such a child isn’t in danger to itself or others, not to mention making sure such a child is in fact happy, despite it’s differences. ... Even when the child is still in the wound, it causes Harriet great pain and this affects the entire family a great deal. ... ”

But the difficulties inevitably following this fifth child gets much worse, after it, a boy named Ben, is born. ... But soon the real issues of living with a child so mentally challenged, as is the case with Ben, appear. As explained earlier, such a child requires a huge amount of attention from especially the parents, to make sure that is safe for itself and others, and to try and make the child an integrated part of the family, and not a “black sheep”.
