Revenge in Julius Caesar and in Hamlet

The theme of both Hamlet and Julius Caesar is that revenge is not to be taken lightly, and can rarely be truly moralized. ... When acted upon, revenge causes one to act through anger rather than reason, and can come back to cause both your death and the death of those around you. Both Hamlet and Antony and Octavius’ plans for revenge caused many deaths, both their own and the deaths of those around them.
In Hamlet, Hamlet’s father, the king, was killed by his own brother, who then married the queen. Hamlet is visited by a ghost, who tells him that Claudius, his uncle, murdered his father (“The serpent that did sting thy fathers life now wears his crown,” (1. ... )) Rather than acting instantly to revenge his father’s death, he delays in killing Claudius.
