A wise man once said “that the true life is only lived when one is true to their self” even though that man was me, it still makes a lot of sense out of the opening of one America’s classic novels. Although this may have little to do with the outside of this chapter, when delved into, it gives its true inside color. Chapter one of the Scarlet Letter, begins the explanation of the necessity for individual thought, which ends up being the life story of a defiant young woman named Hester Prynne, and her battle against the inhibition of society. ... His focus on the past of the nation, especially the Puritan era, his delving into the social and psychological forces underlying human behavior, his reliance on symbols to convey rich and ambivalent value to his stories and romances, his insistence on finding and understanding the sources of humanity s darker side, and his exploration of such themes as isolation, monomania, guilt, concealment, social reform, and redemption not only created a following among aspiring writers but also brought him into the nations classrooms, where The Scarlet Letter, to name only his most famous work, still holds a firm place: more than eighty editions of it are available in book stores all over the world.
