Setting: The setting for this story is in a town in Arizona. The book brings you through Alex’s house, Mr. People’s Hair Cut Shop, Alex’s school and a baseball field. Characters: The main character of the story is Alex Frankovitch. Alex is a boy in 4th grade that likes to play baseball and is a class clown. His nickname is “Skinny Bones”. He is not very popular around the kids in his neighborhood. He has been playing baseball for the last six years and has been voted most improved all six years, but he most improved because he stinks. Other characters in the story are Fluffy his dog, who likes to run around the neighborhood, Miss Henderson, who is Alex’s teacher and she is very nice to him, Mr. Peoples, who is the town’s bad haircutter, T.J Stoner, a kid who moves into town from Los Angeles and becomes very popular. TJ is a pitcher and plays for an opposing baseball team. He is also a classmate and likes to make fun of Alex. Mr. Fuzzy is Alex’s Grandmas dog. Alex’s Grandma thinks that Mr. Fuzzy is human. Peter Donnelly and Brenda Ferguson are Alex’s close friends and Brian who is Alex’s best friend. Fran and Ethel are from the cleaning service and they are at each and every baseball game.
