I sit by your side, As you lie in that hospital bed, You lie there helplessly In pain, I grab your hand, as you grab mine, I turn and look outside the window, I then remember the times we shared, The hugs, The kisses, The laughter only we could share, Our special banana bread we ate, Our paddleboat rides where that was our time to talk, Our game playing time, that was always so Competitive, It then clicks, Those are times we will never be able to have, Ever again, Then tears come to my eyes as I remember, The time you were diagnosed with that awful terrible word, Cancer, And how then I decided I needed to spend more time with you then ever, Because you were sick, Just like that, I blank, My memories of us are gone, I look at you, and see you lying there, Wishing I could make all your pain go away, But then God decides it’s your time to leave, You close your eyes, And your heart stops, Just like that, Your body was gone of all that pain, I have no where to turn it seems, I needed your special hug, And I couldn’t have it, I didn’t get to tell you I loved you, Why, I was scared, I didn’t know what I was thinking, You’re gone now, And you don’t even know how much I loved you, And cared for you, Now I just have to wait until I get up to the heavens to tell you, All because I was too Scared. |
