Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot. During the 1950s, the U.S. had several major box office hits featuring stories of rebellious young men, e.g. The Wild One, Rebel Without a Cause. These were often sensationalistic, with exaggerated characters and situations that preyed on parental fears. British films on these themes followed, but they were much different. Youth rebellion wasn't blamed on bad parenting or generation gaps. The roots for disaffection were more credibly based upon the monotony of factory labor, the lack of future prospects, and the reluctance to assume society-compelled 'adult' responsibilities.
