The Lord of the Rings is a fantasy set in a land called Middle Earth, which is full of large sweeping planes, high mountainous peaks and dense forests. Various races live in different parts of this world and the land in which each live is different according to their culture. The period of the story is unknown. There are several main characters in this book. One of the most important is Aragorn. Aragorn is heir to the throne of Gondor (the stronghold of men) even though he usually conceals it and disguises himself as a ranger. His weapon is his sword Anduril. Legolas is an elfin prince from a faraway woodland realm. He is a useful person to have around with his keen eyesight and his strong bow. He and Gimli form an unlikely friendship together. The dwarf, Gimli is a very proud and stout little man with a long braided beard. He also carries a huge battle-axe. Gandalf is a wise and powerful wizard .He is also known for having many different names. His horse Shadowfax is a lord of horses and has become a very useful companion.
