Tempest vs Forbidden Planet
The Tempest, one of William Shakespeare’s last plays takes place on a faraway island, where there is a shipwreck due to a storm. Forbidden Planet, a science fiction movie from the 1950’s, is set on a faraway planet, where we meet up with a stranded spaceship. In The Tempest Prospero and his daughter Miranda have a tight-knit relationship because they have been exiled to the island since Miranda was born by Prospero’s brother. In Forbidden Planet there is also a close relationship between Morbius and his daughter Altaira, but this bond is threatened by an outside force from the stranded spaceship. In both The Tempest and Forbidden Planet, characters are imprisoned by self-interest, love, and the power of magic and technology.
In The Tempest all characters suffer some kind of confinement, however in a few occurrences this imprisonment is due to self-interest.
