The Perks of Being a Wallflower 1. Discuss three of the characters in the book and how they affected the conflicts and the outcome of the plot. In the book The Perks of Being a Wallflower, there are three main characters: Charlie, Sam, and Patrick. These three characters played a great role in everyday conflicts and affected each other in some ways or another. Charlie is a freshman in a high school, and he does not like it. He talks about how he used to be friends with a girl named Susan back in middle school, and how she doesn’t like to say hi to Charlie anymore because she changed physically and mentally. “God, that kid is such a fuckin freak….. He said it more factual than mean, and Susan didn’t correct him,” (Page 145). Charlie doesn’t make any new friends until he went to the football game. It was a kid from his shop class, Patrick, and his stepsister, Sam. He tells Sam and Patrick that he has a crush on Sam, and Patrick explained how everything works.
