Violets are Blue
Violets are Blue by James Patterson is a novel that shows many of the elements of fiction. There are, of course, plot, characters, many different settings, themes, and points of view. This novel is what many people would call “in medias res.” It starts off with a crisis right away. It is a murder mystery, and like many others it lacks an exposition. This novel was very interesting because it is a sequel and a new and different novel in one. The story begins with a set of murders, thought to be committed by vampires. The plot doesn’t really change at all because it starts off with the vampire murders and they continue throughout the novel. The conflict of the story is trying to figure out who the murderers are. There are numerous leads in the beginning, but they all fail. Conflict arises when the FBI thought they had the killers, but they were wrong. The conflict is both internal and external. The internal conflict is going on with Alex Cross the detective. He has a lot on his mind during these vampire murders. He still is trying to figure out his previous case and he took on this case to help out his friend.
