In Chapter 3, we see the introduction of the Squire, who was supposedly the 'Greatest man in Raveloe'. his is the developing of the sub-plot, which is linked to the main plot and the people to which marners society is now. The squire was a feudal lord and he was the 'only one among several landed parishioners' but he alone was given the title of Squire.
