In the poem, Dylan writes that the referee is able to save Davey in the eighth round, “I could’ve stopped it in the eighth” but he did not. ... Even if he did stop the fight, we do not know if Davey was already suffering from minor rain damage or any other possible damage. ... He thinks that Davey is well but if he were sick, the manager would have noticed something wrong since he works with Davey everyday. This shows some neglect to Davey’s general well being. ... Even though he admits that he didn’t touch Davey,“ My hands never touched him none. ... Part of the excuse that the man makes to defend himself is that he bet on Davey to win, “…I put money on him to win.” This has nothing to do with what happened to Moore so is irrelevant.
