About El Greco
|

El Greco, one of the greatest Spanish painters of all time, was born in Candia, Crete in 1541. His real name was Domenicos Theotocopoulos, But later in his life, he changed it to "El Greco", which means "man from Greece". In 1567 he moved to Venice where he studied under Titian, then he started to paint in Rome from about 1570-1577. After Rome, El Greco moved on to create a name for himself in Toledo and work on the altar of the Church of Santo Domingo el Antiguo. ... Toledo ended up becoming a home for El Greco where he stayed for a long time, making some of his most famous pieces of art.
