An Empire Of Fat Everywhere we look we see fat. We see the overweight adults of our society, we see the overweight teenagers, and we see the overweight children. We also see a fast food restaurant on just about every major street in the U.S. And now we are beginning to see the rest of the world follow our doomed footsteps. It is said “More than half of all American adults and about one-quarter of all American children are overweight” (240). We obviously have a problem. Today, at least thirty-seven states have obesity rates of 15 percent or higher (240).
