AIDS in Africa

AIDS in Africa

AIDS is one of the worst health disasters since the Middle Ages, when the Bubonic Plague was being spread, and is very likely to be the worst ever. There are many factors that contribute to the spread of this deadly disease such as poverty, ignorance, the prohibitive cost of AIDS drugs, an aversion to discussing sex and, some say, promiscuity. There are many causes and effects, and unfortunately not many treatments available, especially for poor continents such as Africa.
One cause of AIDS is having sexual intercourse with an infected person. ... This causes many cities and towns’ rate of AIDS to increase as men will often have affairs with women while working. ... While wars are going on, soldiers often visit with prostitutes, and later find out that about 90 percent of the soldiers were believed to have AIDS. There is a myth that having sex with a virgin cures AIDS. ... But in some cases women will have sex with “healthy looking men,” because a low percentage of women believe that if a man looks healthy, he does not have AIDS. Although most people are not being tested, the rate of AIDS is much higher with women than men.
