History: The Boxer Rebellion All of these sources show Chinese people (boxers) being beaten or already dead at the hands of foreign forces. ... The killing in itself suggests a certain amount of anger but because the man has been beheaded it is very obvious that the Western world wanted retribution for the rebellion led by the boxers. ... This means that they felt that the killing of the Boxers (the beheaded bodies) was a necessary act. ... Overall the four sources (five, six, seven and eight) seem to suggest that the rest of the world wanted revenge for the Boxers actions, and, not only this but they freely took it. All four sources show Boxers being physically beaten, which suggests that the Boxers weren’t considered worthy of a trial. ... I would say that these sources indicate that the rest of the world had the attitude that the Boxers deserved everything they got. ... The attitude that the foreign forces had towards the Boxers is quite obvious. ... Many foreign people were killed in the rebellion and the Boxers paid for this with their lives. Examples of the foreign power revenge can be found in sources seven and eight, where Boxers are pictured beheaded. The foreign forces were very angry with the Chinese themselves after the rebellion, so the foreigners held the attitude that the Boxers deserve what they get. ... This can be shown in source four, which says “The foreign troops began widespread looting of Peking…” Another example of the foreign soldiers doing what they wanted can be found in source eight, which shows Japanese troops standing around a group of Boxers who have been decapitated. |
