Bloom's taxonomy
In 1956, Benjamin Bloom, a professor at the University of Chicago, shared his famous "Taxonomy of Educational Objectives". Bloom found that over 95% of the test questions students encounter require them to think only at the lowest possible level...the recall of information. Bloom integrated his findings into classroom climate in order to make sure that instruction stimulates and develops students' higher-order thinking skills. This became a taxonomy including three overlapping domains; the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective. Each of the domains can be utilized through the interaction of media. Bloom identified six levels within the cognitive domain, from the simple recall or recognition of facts, as the lowest level, through increasingly more complex and abstract mental levels, to the highest order which is classified as evaluation.
