Analysis of crime can be achieved through criminological theories. Two major theories which will be discussed in this paper are The Strain Theory and The Social Control Theory. ... As a result crime theorists such as Emile Durkheim, Robert Merton, Albert Cohen and Robert Agnew have tried to analyse society and the interaction of people with each other in order to determine the reasons of persisting crime. ... Durkheim asserts that increase in crime is largely due to the factor unemployment as people who do not have a job are forced to commit crimes to continue living. ... Both theories assume that humans’ desires are insatiable, but differ in their perception of individuals’ morality. ...
