Cats have been the favorite pet of humans for thousands of years. Cats started to be used as pets by the ancient Egyptian empire. Cats were actually thought of as Gods by the Egyptians. Cats were so highly prized, that when someone was to die and be mummified, it was common practice to mummify their pet cat as well so that the cat and owner would be reunited in the afterlife. Cats have always been a cherished pet for royalty and peasant alike. Dogs have also been a cherished pet but not as much as cats. In the middle ages, royalty would use dogs for hunting and various outdoor activities. But cats were always the civilized and proper animal and were the only animals that were permitted to be inside the house. In today’s American society, cats are the most common family pet. ... Despite the far greater number of dog shows, cats are believed to outnumber dogs by the millions.” So in the war between cats and dogs, the cats win by sheer numbers. |
