The People Who Run the Show: A Look Into Airport Management I think it all started the day I went to my first air show when I was thirteen. The Blue Angels were there that year. I’ll never forget that feeling of my insides shaking from the sound of the engines of the mighty F-18 Hornets as they whizzed over the heads of the astonished crowd below. Wow, was I ever astonished! From then on I knew that I wanted to be somehow involved in the wonderful and exciting world of aviation. Since the many years of my first air show have passed, so have my original dreams of becoming a professional pilot. Instead, I have become more interested in the people behind the planes and the pilots; the people who run the show. By this I am referring to the airport managers and directors. I have found that people in this profession take it very seriously, but at the same time have fun. That is the kind balance I want to have in my professional career. I feel airport management has the potential for a successful and rewarding career for anyone who loves the aviation industry. As one might imagine, running an airport may seem like a bit of a challenge considering the enormous amount of various activities that are occurring at the same time.
