Praising Japanese In Public Workplaces Goulds Pumps headquarter is an American company. It boasts a proud tradition of supplying quality pumping products to the global industrial markets for over 150 years. Goulds is the dominant brand worldwide with over a million installed process pumps in service (http://www.gouldspumps.com). In 1998, in order to explore the Japanese market, Goulds pumps headquarter corporation decided to cooperate with a Japanese pumps company in Kawaguchi. Several months later, the Japan-U.S. Joint Venture began to operate and also American headquarter dispatched some senior managers and technicians to help Japanese part. Mr. John is the general manger of the Joint Venture company. Mr. John was fairly new to Japan-U.S. business. He was only beginning to learn about Japanese culture. In several of his early encounters with Japanese management, he was quite confused. Frequently on assignment in Kawaguchi, John represented his U.S. Corporation in a pumps joint venture with a Kawaguchi company. When it came time for informal talk regarding upcoming compliments that had to be made, John found that the production manager, Mr. Yokota, (despite his position as a middle level manager, and looked calmly and seriously when he made a speech at the company managers¡¯ weekly meetings) was always embarrassed when John want to say congratulations to Yokota on several occasions.
