Capital punishment
I arrived in this class in favor of capital punishment. I was one of those people who believed in “an eye for an eye.” And while I still believe that the punishment should fit the crime, I no longer feel that the death penalty is suitable punishment. After reading May God Have Mercy and watching The Case for Innocence, I was appalled at how inadequate the criminal justice system is in investigating and handling cases. The system has too many flaws to be sentencing people to death. Until the criminal justice system is one hundred percent accurate in convicting the true offender, I feel we should not implement a death sentence. Eye witness problems are involved in about eighty-five percent of all wrongful convictions. So why are eyewitness accounts admissible in court?
