Effects of Slavery on
Olaudah Equiano
The autobiography of Olaudah Equiana provides the reader with a detailed narrative of the life of a captured slave. Olaudah Equiano was kidnapped from his home in Africa and taken to America. Oluadah Equiano speaks to us about the impact slavery had on him and other slaves. Slavery was not new to Africa at the time of Oluadah Equiano’s kidnapping. Slavery was different in Africa. Originale slaves in Africa were brought into slavery because of crimes they have committed. ... Slavery in other places were harsh. ... Slavery outside of Africa was extremely hard on the enslaved individuals.
When slavery became profitable the treatment of slaves changed drastically. Slavery outside of Africa is completely different. Slavery was meant to show that slaves were inferior to ‘whites’. Equiano felt inferior to his ‘white’ slave owner. Equiano started having strong desires to be more like these superior “spirits”.
