In this twentieth first century, the theory of realism seems to be more suitable as a main principle for International Relations. As what Huntington had mention in his book The Clash of Civilization, “The realist picture of the world is a highly useful starting point for analyzing international affairs and explains much state behavior” (34). Therefore, in this essay, it will be a comparison between the Realist and the Idealist. It will define those terms and finally give you a view of point on why Realist is better than Idealist.
The basic definition of realist or realism is that it is a thought that explains international relations in term of power. ... On other hand, idealist or idealism has provided a counterpoint to realism. The idealist in International Relation holds that morality, law, and international organization can form basis for relations among states. ... The main ideas or the principle of realist is that state is the most important factor. According to realist, states are the primary and the only important actors in world affairs, the relation among states, and hence to insure their survival and security (Huntington 33). ... This concept had created the principle in the theory of realist such as the ‘Balance of Power’. ...
This is another example of the failure of the idealist. ... But, by January 1991, after the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in the summer of 1990, this idealist’s idea was again failed.
