In an age of increased crime and over-crowded penitentiaries, the death penalty seems to be a great solution to decreasing prison populations, while leaving room to enforce law with tougher sentences, thus increasing crime prevention. By getting rid of the big fish (those condemned to life in prison or sentenced to death row) there would be greater room for strong enforcement of sentencing for the smaller fish.
