The concept of Affirmative Action in theory is and remains one of the cornerstones of Civil Rights in the United States. ... During the 1970’s when Affirmative Action was implemented as a federal standard for employment practices, it was a regulation that was clearly a necessity for civil rights to become embraced nationwide in all workplaces. Later in the decade Affirmative Action was also implemented in many other selection processes, most notably through institutions of higher education. However, as a minority who has witnessed the process of Affirmative Action, it has not necessarily aided my education or career aspirations, and overall the concept in itself has the ability to hinder some industries and institutions due to its out-dated basis.
Much like the Constitution of the United States, Affirmative Action is in essence a concept in need of being updated because of its vulnerability of loopholes, and because its lack of flexibility in some cases. The most prominent of advantageous efforts through Affirmative Action is that of agencies attaching quotas to it. ... I don’t agree with this and many other similar uses of Affirmative Action because it is a reversal of roles in contrast to pre-Affirmative Action times.
