Carl Cohen is a credible writer on the topic of affirmative action. ... His experiences have allowed him to see first- hand both the positive and adverse affects that affirmative action has on college students. It is from this that Cohen is able to form his own educated ideas, on which he bases his opinion of affirmative action.
Carl Cohen made a few excellent points on the topic of affirmative action in college admissions. He commends the original intent of affirmative action, which is, “to eliminate racially discriminate practices.” He states, however, “that the racial preferences that have arisen in the name of affirmative action are unfair and intolerable” (1). ... Cohen begins by explaining what affirmative action originally meant, and how it has evolved into something ironically opposite (1). ... Cohen’s genuine concern to expose the truth of affirmative action, and his strong desire to reduce racial tension is deeply expressed in his article.
