Death Penalty

Over many years in the United States, the death penalty has been a topic of many debates because some people agree with it and others disagree with it. Although it will be an ongoing debate, the death penalty should not be allowed in the United States. The government should not have the right to choose a person’s death because for instance, many innocent people have been put to death which is not right. Furthermore, it is proven that there have been more African American citizens put to death by the death penalty than Caucasian citizens which shows that the government is bias against race. It is also more expensive to put a prison mate to death than to keep them in jail for life. Finally, it has been proven that the death penalty has not stopped criminals from committing serious crimes. Considering these factors, the death penalty should have never been allowed in the United States.
The death penalty is not the correct way to punish prisoners in our society. ... A life-sentence for an inmate is worse than the death penalty because for many people, if they are going to spend life in prison anyway, they would rather die instead of spending their life in prison. ... 64) Murders, or people who have been sentenced to the death penalty, should live a life of misery in jail rather than being put to death so that they cannot escape their wrong doings and life sentence in jail.
Due to the amount of people being put to death by the death penalty every year, the states are losing millions of dollars of which could be used towards resources that would help their citizens.
