Since its inception the constitution of the United States of America has been under close scrutiny by many who postulate that the preliminary statement otherwise known as the Declaration of Independence declares that “All men are created equal”; is misleading and its authors did not intend for it to include the Black race of that nation. It is true that the first draft of the Declaration of Independence included a section that condemned slavery and Thomas Jefferson one of the primary authors was known to have given speeches where he publicly disapproved of this issue (Jordan pg 439) however, after careful observation it may be revealed that the Americans even after declaring that “all men are created equal” simultaneously held black people in slavery because in keeping with the European Racial Contract, Black people were thought of as intellectually, psychologically, culturally and ontologically inferior to the white race. ... Also in keeping with the history of the era in which the constitution was written, the inclusion of the Black race in the Declaration would prove highly unprofitable and inconsistent with the attitudes shown by the white man towards the Negroes.
Modern Racist thought supports the exclusion of Africans from world relations on the premise that they are inferior. ... ” He further asserts “humanity is at its greatest perfection in the race of whites.” (Eze pg 54-58) David Hume described as one of the greatest philosophers of the Enlightenment, posited the view that the Negroes were inferior to the Whites and the Europeans were the only civilized people. ... It is not surprising then, that the Declaration of Independence was not intended to incorporate Africans, as it is apparent that the concept of slavery and essentially racism was embodied into the American way of life.
Before and even after the time of the Declaration of Independence, America was comfortably engaged in the slave trade. According to Historian Roger Davis, in the article Chronology: A Historical Review, Major Events in Black History 1492-1953, the United States; in keeping with the first consensus had 757,000 blacks which accounted for 19% of the population.
