ABSTRACT Drugs take millions of lives every day and drugs affect lots of people. Drugs are attempting to destroy humanity. This essay contains general information about drugs. It explains the different types of drugs that exist in our world and the use and abuse of them. There is an emphasis on “ecstasy”, which is the drug that is strongly attempting against young people. Also contains a description of new illicit drugs, and the concern of governments and public opinion towards this theme. Otherwise, the document refers to the social and economic problems that “illicit drugs” generate to the drug producer countries and points out on the advantages that drug dealers get from this illicit business. DRUGS: A DESCRIPTION AND THEIR SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC IMPACT ON WORLD POPULATION. INTRODUCTION Humans have always experimented with substances derived from minerals, plants, and animal parts to treat pain, illness, and restore health, since the very beginning humanity have used drugs as a substance that affects the function of living cells, used in medicine to diagnose, cure, prevent the occurrence of diseases and disorders, and prolong the life of patients with incurable conditions or only to help patients with a disease or a sickness helping the organism to handle pain and to combat that specific disease. However, drugs have also been used in such a way that attempts against human life, as a result, these drugs have been denominated as “illicit drugs”. According to the web pages consulted for the essay: Depending on each government legislation illicit drugs are not the same in every country. For example in Holland the use of “marihuana” is licit to consume in public places while in United States of America consuming drugs in a public place is considered as a serious penalty. The consumption of drugs is not related either to sex, age, race or social condition, as it was believed in the past. These days, everyone has an easy contact with drugs or with any kind of illegal drug. It doesn’t matter if they are children or adults, if they are poor or rich, it doesn’t matter if your Arabian or American, drugs are in everywhere they are always present and they don’t differentiate your social or economical condition. TYPES OF ILLICIT DRUGS The definition of the different types of illicit drugs that are mentioned, are taken from the web pages referred in the bibliography: Amphetamines, are a group of drugs made from different chemicals.
