In this particular case, Donahue shows the importance of federalism and the fact that individual state governments are needed as well as the national level because all states are different in their industrial productions, so each state should regulate its antipollution laws in answer to the means it uses. Donahue seems to point out representations on both sides of the battle for federalism. ... The idea of federalism comes from the decision in this particular case and distinguishes many of the powers given to the states and what is reserved for the national government. ... One thing I found interesting was the fact that an advantage of federalism is that it brings government closer to the people so that theoretically they can be more involved, but turnout for local elections is so much lower than it is for national elections. ... My personal opinion about federalism is that it is a necessary system in democracy. ... Federalism is a concept that can be talked about in incredible depth, and I feel that it is essential to the way that our society functions.
