A leader who is applying Machiavelli’s principles correctly will go about his business, making decisions, working deals, doing whatever he needs to do to make sure everything gets done, and the average citizen will never be the wiser, and that leader will keep his position of power though his respect. In some cases, when an overly shady scandal takes place, some of the citizenry will make a big fuss and if they are not controlled and the “prince” of the given situation will lose face with his people. If said prince had put a kibosh on the protesting, he would save face, the people would be happier, and he would ensure his position of power.
