In American politics today liberal means support for political and social reforms, extensive government intervention in the economy, the expansion of federal social services, and more vigorous efforts on behalf of the poor, minorities, and women, as well as greater concern for consumers and the environment. ...
Conservatives can be descried as those who generally support economic status quo and are suspicious of efforts to introduce new political formulae and economic arrangements. Conservatives strongly believe that a large and powerful government poses a threat to citizens’ freedom, so they generally oppose the expansion of government activity, and oppose efforts to impose government regulations on business. Many conservatives oppose abortion, support prayer in school, and are more concerned about victims that accused criminals. In international affairs conservatives support the maintenance of military power.
